WEEK 4: RESPONSE TO CISNEY

As we approach the end of this month and the course overall, I would like to show my appreciation for my classmates and instructors.  This last month, I am sure, will fly by and before we know it we will be done, graduation will be over and we will all go back to the lives we had before this course.  I have learned many things from this course and the people I have journeyed though it with.  My hope is that we will stay in touch, continue to bounce ideas off each other, and work to make education a better place for educators and students.  I will miss the interactions with my classmates; creating movies together from all over the country, growing tired of Second Life project after Second Life project, and wondering about grades.  I will enjoy getting to spend more time with my family and sleeping the first two days after this course is over.  Thank you to all who have enriched and touched my life over these past 12 months.  Stay in touch and I wish you well in the future.  God Bless

Thank you Eric for sharing your last blog with us, I have enjoyed my experience with Full Sail and one of my greatest reflections has been the friends I have made throughout our courses.  In December I joined your group because of a family emergency and a month of leave.  I was reluctant because I had made such amazing friends from my other co-hort group.  I was thrilled to see the same spirit of communication and collaboration existed.  The same community feeling of friendship and professionalism.  Thank you for welcoming me in.

I will be graduating with my original class on April 2, 1010 (although I'll be working on my final project at the same time) but want to share my feelings of gratitude to all. Thank you!

WEEK 4: iTunes, Pandora, Last.fm, Audible.com, GarageBand

I watched the tutorials for itunes, pandora and Last.fm.  I have used itunes and pandora but, Last.fm is new tome.  Interestingly I do have a Iphone so i downloaded the apps and love being able to have my pandora and last.fm now in my car via this app!

The garage band tutorial was good if you knew how to play the guitar (which I don't) so I continue to play with the garage band and make new loops and music via the extra loops I purchased.  I was getting tired of hearing the same garage band loops in all of my presentations and now I am starting to hear them on commercials.  Time to upgrade!  My daughter is learning to play the guitar via garage band's "learn guitar" series and she says so far this has been the best computer lesson app.

After I finish my thesis this next month I want to work on my piano and learning more from the garage band series and transfer it to my personal piano... Can't wait!

WEEK 4: POST 1

WELL, The clock is ticking and the time is growing short and we will soon be graduates from Full Sail University.  As I reflect on this I am wondering if I have gained everything I had hoped to gain from this experience.  I have learned so many tools such as designing websites, podcasts, blogs, video production, flash creations, online course development, photo imaging, photo sharing, music making, music and video appreciation I think yes I can say I have gained a lot from this experience!  In my final month I will be fine tuning my media creation and thesis I am proud of this so far and excited to keep plugging away and making a masterpiece. Go to Making The Change to view and see what I have accomplished so far.  I will be adding podcasts, video's a ning and a short online course.

WEEK 2: blog post 4

The art of possibility chapter 4 takes the human nature of asking "why me?", and helps us turn it around and make life sweeter by asking "What have I done to contribute?"  "do unto others as I would have them do unto me" (paraphrase of course).  We know this but, do we actually take each day and ask ourselves "what have I done to contribute?"

So I took this question and I asked my friends through Facebook what they have contributed this week and of course had many replies.  Here are the responses:

Allison Carter Kenney
proctoring FCAT doesn't work, but, I will throw out that I contributed to making sure teenagers taking the FCAT were calm and self assured. (I did the first one) now your turn.
Tracy Dover Huggins
Contributed to a special project at work that will assist many others
Mindy Lafevers-Hodge
Tried my best to keep the hubs comfortable during a terrible food poisoning episode.
Dennis Wright
contributed to teaching creative young minds how to make the world a little more beautiful. (One fierce outfit at a time! Ha!)
Donna Clark Bateman
contributed by showing love to a 13-yo that was acting way less than lovable.
J'aime Arcaini Settle
The world population :)

So I will ask my blog friends the same thing now... "what have you done to contribute?"

My Project so far

www.makingthechangeweb20.comok, so I got a domain name and started my website.  Go check it out... and tell me what you think. I am really looking for critical responses.. don't just tell me you like it.. I want to know how I can change it if I need to.  My target audience is K-12 teachers.. and most technology websites cater to the secondary teachers.  I wanted the site to be attractive to all teachers.

I also found a new LMS (free) course offering site.. go to my professional development page and take a look at "myhaiku".

enjoy!

Week 2: Blog post 3

I was so impressed with Mohamed's blog post about holographic imagery as well as the future of 3D that it made me remember some of the things I was originally thinking about when I started this program.

I have always wondered why Education seems to be the last to pick up technology in fact I was so shocked this week to walk into a classroom FILLED with MAC computers.. and the teacher told me she has been begging the county to get them hooked up for the past 3 years.. but, they refuse.. "not sure of the technology yet".  So MACs sit unused.. and soon to be outdated.  WHY??

Augmented Reality would be so amazing to use for primary documents as well as artifacts in museums... if the student can't come to the museum.. no reason why the museum can't come to them.

Here is a short video clip of what Universal Studios did this year to open and launch their new Harry Potter World.

Enjoy.

Week2 - Blog # 2 - Holographic

For now, watching TVs and wearing 3D glasses is the ultimate in 3D presentation. However, the rapid development of holography technology is setting the stage for new possibilities and features. Now more than before, the potential of viewing 3D motions in real time is possible. Holography is the process of making holograms using three-dimensional laser techniques. Holograms are 3D graphic images that seem to have depth. Freedman (2002) stated in his article, “A hologram's realism doesn't come merely from its stereoscopic properties; holographic images can be inspected from all angles as the viewer's head moves around them.”

Furthermore, Holographic technology is being used to save and store data. With videos and 3D graphics, gigabytes and terabytes are not enough. This new technology can store way more.
For really large amounts of data, storage capacity is no longer measured in gigabytes, terabytes or petabytes, but rather by the size of the warehouses needed for the discs, cartridges or tapes that carry them. It uses laser beams to store digital data in three dimensions. “Unlike DVDs, which store data in thin layers just beneath the surface of the disc, holographic storage encodes information in three dimensions, within the volume of the disc. This will enable the first holographic discs to store a colossal 300 gigabytes of data--12 times more than the latest Blu-ray discs and 60 times more than a standard DVD” (Economist, 2007).

Moreover, Holographics are being used in many industries, including automobile, airplanes and well as in the military. For example, it has been used in the military to enhance accuracy. An Military & Aerospace Electronics article (2006) describing using new technology by L3 company stated, “The company produces holographic weapon sights for sale to domestic and international military customers, as well as the homeland security and law enforcement markets using advanced laser and holographic technology to enhance optical systems in target acquisition systems” (p. 7).

Mohamed.. this is fabulous! So interesting, I love that we are able to grow and learn with these technologies. Thank you for sharing the video, I hope you don't mind if I share it on my facebook? I would like my children to see it. I have enjoyed playing around with the augmented reality advertising mediums through GE and Universial Studios. I would love to see augmented reality move into education with primary document sources. Wouldn't that be amazing, to see any museum artifact up close as if you are there!

WEEK 2: Blog post 1

I know I am wasting time and the clock is ticking...

But I can't decide on what to do for my media project!!! I stipulated in my content proposal that I was going to do a Ning social networking site and a UDUTU course.  I am not excited about the Ning.. I think I may just go back to my original idea and have a website with web 2.0 tools and resources and then link it to the UDUTU course.  YES, I think I needed to just make a decision.  Here is my logo I  built for my ning/udutu/website.  Now need to concentrate on the other stuff.. NEED TO GET WORKING!

Week 1: Blog post 4

As I work on my content proposal I start thinking about how I want to share my thesis and everything I have learned?  My thesis focuses on bringing Web 2.0 strategies to professional development for educators.  So in order to bring my ideas to fruition as well as bring value to my thesis I need to use the Web 2.0 tools that I am talking about.  So for my media project I will be designing a NING site so that teachers from all over can come and learn about Web 2.0 strategies as well as communicate with one another via social networking (as well as Web 2.0 tool).  The educators can also take a UDUTU course and learn about Web 2.0 networking what it is and how they can implement it in their classrooms.

I'll keep you posted as this project grows.

Week 1: Blog post 3 URGENT EVOKE

I wanted to share a link with my Full Sail Colleagues.  Came across this article in NY Times.  This site is a simulation game based game.  But, it takes real world problems and look for creative solutions with as many people as they can and try to solve it.

WHAT IS AN EVOKE?

This is not a simulation.

You are about to tackle real problems

food security
energy
water security
disaster relief
poverty
pandemic
education
human rights

Welcome to the Evoke Network.
Welcome to your crash course in changing the world.

Week 1: Blog post 2

The Art of Possibility:
I am an avid reader, I love all books. Books about love and romance, mystery and history.  I enjoy cookbooks and self help books and everything in between.  What I do not care for it.  DIGITAL BOOKS. I know, I know I should really get a Kindle and unlock that door. But, I am one of those gals that still love the smell of a book, I love to touch the pages and feel the tangible paper while I read.  I need to update my librarything.org bookshelf to add my Full Sail books but, you can take a peak at my bookshelf:

So when I found out our books this month were in the digital form.. I CRINGED.  But, I found I enjoyed the book and was able to actually enjoy the book (plus like the highlight and note-making tool) .

I liked the quote: "It's all invented anyway so we might as well invent the story or a framework that enhances our quality of life and those around us".  Love this.. I have always believed this but life tends to happen and the dreams we have sometimes get moved to the back burner. But, it is about pulling the dreams out of the closet, dusting them off and invent the opportunities by moving forward.
